First of all there was the inauguration of the official website of C & D: www.ciclismoediabete.it. This important tool was more necessary than ever: now that the association is becoming more and more authority and reputation needed a dedicated space and a direct address to reference in order to gather and share experiences.

Since its inception, our blog Sunt Diabetes has made his small part by communicating in a "spontaneous" news, events, reports of Cycling and Diabetes (it shows a rich collection of articles that speak of). On the site is available the new statute of Cycling & Diabetes NPO, which contains the principles which guide the activities of the association. Andrea Guerra returns to be president of C & D (after to have been made in the early years): in 2009 the office was covered by David Panichi ... A Christmas present for people with diabetes: the motion of the Senate Diabetes

Palazzo Madama - Senato A few weeks ago all people with diabetes who received a small Christmas gift, even though many do not know it yet ... I'm talking about the 174 motion passed unanimously in the Senate Diabetes December 3, 2009. This marks an important stage of a journey begun long: just think of the Manifesto of the Rights of Persons with Diabetes signed only last summer by parliamentary association or associations, of which we had already spoken. Now some of the principles of the Manifesto seem to be a first practical application! The motion in fact emphasizes the right of all people with diabetes to have access to the best possible care, and that this should be done free of charge and homogeneous throughout, Further recalling Article 32 of the Constitution. The document also refers to the problems of complications and the availability of deans to measure blood glucose, the popular strips often insufficient.

Article 32 of the Constitution of the Italian Republic
The Republic protects health as a fundamental right of the individual and collective interest, and guarantees free care to the needy ...

This motion is a beautiful example of constructive cooperation between the associations, the medical and scientific institutions, public institutions. Even politics has played its part with this bi-partisan motion, for example through the efforts of Senators Ignazio Marino, Emanuela Baio, Antonio Tomassini and the Minister Ferruccio Fazio ... Everything fits into the historical context of the law 115 of 1987 never fully implemented despite its great importance for diabetes: a good step forward, but that they should follow so many others!

I enclose below the motion 1-00174 diabetes and poster of Rights, documents that invite everyone to read because they are fundamental tools with which to say the most of our needs. Download:

Babbo natale I take this opportunity to wish everyone good news for Merry Christmas and a happy 2010 and hope that Christmas has been sunny and not too hot ...! ;-)

World Diabetes Day 2009: Youth Panel in Rome

On 14 November, like every year, we celebrate the GMD: the World Diabetes Day, this year the Youth Pannel Italian boys found themselves in Rome to participate actively in events (the year preceding the appointment was in Perugia ). Arrival November 13, after the space reserved for the greetings, started the discussion "on the table" of the new developments concerning diabetes.

The agenda included a first time for debate on the MDG and the role of the panelist during the awareness activities planned for the next day. It was subsequently analyzed the "Manifesto of the rights of people with diabetes," a list of points that summarize the needs of every person with diabetes. Finally, it was brought on Novo Nordisk's new project which aims to help sub-Saharan children with diabetes in serious economic difficulties.

In the evening the kids watched the show "the island that there is" Renato Giordano Tordinola at the theater, a magnificent performance, but at times almost tragic irony, which tells the tortuous and difficult road traveled by Dr. Banting and Best to search his adjutant therapy for diabetes: l 'insulin. Much appreciated by the panelist, this first part of the story has the opportunity to learn about the history of mankind that has enabled them to lead a good life and free of complications.

The next day, stand in Piazza San Lorenzo, the panelist were employed to provide information on diabetes and to interview passersby to detect opinions, concerns and knowledge about diabetes. A real success for the boys, who have proved enthusiastic and willing, from nine to eighteen are employed to make people aware of this growing problem by providing useful advice to those who had concerns about, from 'power to' activity.

Exhausted but satisfied with their success, the day when the children are broken into their homes scattered throughout the boot: Milan, Mantua, Naples, Caserta ... all conscious of having done their best to win the battle against diabetes.

Good World Diabetes Day to all!

Today, 14 November 2009, is the World Diabetes Day, as established by the United Nations Resolution on diabetes. I want to address to all the following message ...

Il cerchio blu, simbolo della Giornata Mondiale del Diabete

The blue circle, a symbol of World Diabetes Day

This date is a great opportunity for the 300 million people with diabetes around the world, a chance for redemption. The World Day offers us the opportunity to turn the spotlight on this scourge that still kills today, especially in poor countries is a scandal. We bring people with diabetes, our support with positive messages of the beauty of life. But also clamoring for the commitment of institutions and knowledge on the care, support the same for everyone, and medical research, putting the individual at the center of everything. Should promote, where possible, prevention, education in healthy lifestyles in 'food and' physical activity, especially for young people. It is necessary to sensitize society and the media, promoting awareness of the rights of people with diabetes to reduce ignorance, injustice and prejudice which anachronistically still exist today.

A better future for diabetes is possible, for all: build it together.

This must be a World Diabetes Day celebration: Participation in activities in the squares and associations, let's hear it. The blue circle is the symbol that identifies diabetes: indossiamolo and diffondiamolo everywhere, even on the Internet.

... See, I can only wish all people with diabetes (I do not like using the word "diabetes") and all the readers a good World Diabetes Day! :-D
