Soon Love & Bike Tour Perugia-Roma and other initiatives for diabetes

By now there are less than a week. On 6 and 7 September a small group of cyclists with diabetes (including me) will start from Perugia to Rome with the road bike: the Changing Diabetes & Bike Love Tour 2008! The mini-tour of about 200km is dedicated to couples who find themselves with passion and love to ride together and also share the adventure of diabetes. Nicely someone will take part in tandem! But other cyclists (including myself) will be accompanied by loved ones, who take part in the initiative without pedaling: play the important work of supporting the organization of the group to which they belong, and especially to encourage the respective halves. Not to mention the exceptional technical and medical staff in tow! The tour is relatively short, but the climb up there will make the ride interesting by cycling point of view ...

There will be an opportunity to give greater visibility to the initiative and media messages about diabetes that it brings: the day after our arrival at the bike, the 'September 8, in Rome will open the important international congress EASD diabetes. Also participate as a cyclist with diabetes at the opening of the Changing Diabetes Village organized by Novo Nordisk near the Roman Forum, on the occasion of the visit to Italy of the Diabetes Bus, which runs around the world for years. I will bring the experience of the youth panel. The press conference will present the institutional authorities with diabetes and sports personalities. Finally at the Ara Pacis will present results of the DAWN Youth.

What can I say ... It looks like a nice experience! We hope to have fun as friends and as couples, to ride bikes together as lovers, and to pass something good to others as people with diabetes. Later publish more news, with a final report of its activities. If you can also write in real time the progress of the tour! See you soon ...

7 In 2006 a group of Italian cyclists with diabetes has reached a great goal: to go from Italy to Holland by bike in just 7 days. Well, I was there between them! A new positive message has toured Europe, and it was a victory achieved on diabetes: a fantastic experience. The European adventure of crossing was part of the Changing Diabetes campaign: further information on the site of the Road Bike Tour 2006 .

After two years I picked up the diary I wrote in those days, I've reorganized and placed it right, ready for publication: it is downloadable below. I think it's important to spread as much as possible such experiences, not to forget, not to dispose of their labors, and since they can be an inspiration to many others. Think of those days the emotions are still strong: even the effort was so much! But the awareness of doing something important, along with a group of friends in my same situation, had given me the inner strength to continue and ride with all the effort possible.

This article inaugurates Sunt Diabetes Blog! It will be a space for spontaneous sharing experiences, conveying emotions, bring forward, to witness events, promote projects, communicate news ... Soon the site will be enriched with all this, and much more about diabetes. Good navigation by the editorial staff!
