In these days, from 5 to 8 November 2008, held in Budapest on TPE : Therapeutic Patient Education Congress in 2008, dedicated to self-management of patient and long-term strategies and no diabetes and chronic illness. This international event is a collaboration of JDRF, IDF, ISPAD and other organisms, calling together experts from around the world, doctors, specialists, scientists, researchers.

The TPE is proposed a new approach to the disease, putting the individual at the heart of the matter. It emphasizes the need to improve the quality of life, and give a more human medicine. The conference was inaugurated by a poignant and moving theater group The Griot , an association of support for cancer patients, whose autobiography as actresses tell their dramatic story, conveying a great zest for life despite his condition. Thanks so much for what we teach.

In conjunction of the TPE is also held an international meeting of the DAWN study, supported by Novo Nordisk: Fourth International DAWN Submit, on a project that aims to cure diabetes and to give importance to human and psychosocial aspects of diabetes, going beyond the question clinic.
Like last year in Berlin, this year I took part in the 4th and 5th November in the work of the DAWN Youth. I attended the discussion sessions as a Youth Ambassador and member of the Youth Panel, together with professional and lively Italian delegation of the board, bringing my point of view and my direct experience firsthand as a boy with diabetes. More information can be found on www.dawnyouth.com .
I think it's very important the value of positive testimony to others. To this I agreed to sustain even a video interview, highlighting my experience that nowadays you can have a normal life with diabetes: a disease rather than diabetes is a condition in which to live. With commitment and passion can achieve their dreams, beyond all limits.
Now missing a week at the World Diabetes Day on November 14, whose theme this year is dedicated to diabetes in children and adolescents. And in this context, the priorities for young people with diabetes highlighted by the DAWN Youth are mainly: assistance in the school, which plays a key role, the ability to highlight and resolve the difficulties these children regarding the emotional ; the prevention of type 2 diabetes, also through physical activity, the study of discomfort caused by social and cultural context in children with diabetes.
The analysis of the results of studies done in recent months shows that, the cooperation between local and national institutions, health organizations, medical and nursing staff, scientific societies, patient organizations and companies. All together we can improve the perception of well-being and quality of life in youth with diabetes, from a human point of view, not to mention new therapies in the hope that scientific research will certainly provide us in the future.
