Cycling & Diabetes 2010 version: the program and news!

Together with some important changes coming in 2010 'Association of Italian cyclists with diabetes: the Diabetes & Cycling group of volunteers is ready to deal with energy events of the new season!

First of all there was the inauguration of the official website of C & D: www.ciclismoediabete.it . This important tool was needed more than ever: now that the association is becoming more and more authority and fame served as a dedicated space and a direct address to which to refer, to gather and share experiences.

Since its inception, our blog Sunt Diabetes has done his small part of communicating in a "spontaneous" news, events, statements Cycling and Diabetes (illustrated by the rich collection of articles that talk about it ). We will continue to do so with pleasure, telling our point of view and working with the new official website!

The website is available on new statute Cycling & Diabetes NPO, which contains the principles that inspired the activities of the association. Andrea Guerra becomes President of C & D (after having been in the early years): in 2009 the office was covered by David Panichi ... So a special thanks to him for work done, and we wish the new president, even if the spirit of the group surely we will move together, each doing their part!

Another new feature is the 'subscription to the association: to bring order to the many participants of Diabetes & Cycling (we are more than 100) it was decided to prepare a special form. Just go to the 2010 membership campaign and complete with their own data to enter the ranks of C & D and to subscribe to the newsletter, staying up to date with all the news. Are you a cyclist? You have diabetes mellitus? Do not miss, subscribe now!

Finally, the program for the new year here all the events . The main official events, already tested in previous years, will be:

The Marathon Davide Cassani in Faenza on March 20 to 21
will be covered the 12th stage of Tour of Italy on May 18-19-20 in Città Sant'Angelo (Perugia)
the most important event, the fifth National Championship for elite cyclists with diabetes (Trophy Changing Diabetes), at the Biella Alps Marathon on 10-11 July 2010 in Biella
The Marathon Straducale July 25 at Urbino
the III National Championship MTB on 2-3 October in Bieno Valsugana (TN)
and to close the loop-annual meeting of the World Diabetes Day on November 13 to 14 in Perugia.

SnowDiab 2010: snow sports for kids with diabetes

I want to point out to all children with diabetes in the mountains and snowboard enthusiasts an interesting initiative, the SnowDiab. It is to spend five days in the snow 13 to 17 February 2010 in Step Vezzena (Lavarone Plateau, TN).

The event is aimed at all young people with type 1 diabetes aged between 15 and 20 years. The program includes snowboarding lessons and aerobic exercise, as well as a healthy fun that will allow the students to confront each other and increase their knowledge about diabetes.

The price to participate is very affordable and includes ski passes and equipment rental: health and fun are guaranteed!

The initiative is organized by ADIQ, Diabetic Climbers at altitude, an association that groups led by Marco Peruffo different mountain lovers. In addition to activities such as SnowDiab, ADIQ also organize real expeditions at high altitude which make news around the world, proving once again that the person with diabetes, although it is, has no limits, both in small and large companies.

World Diabetes Day 2009: Youth Panel in Rome

On 14 November, as every year, we celebrate the GMD: World Diabetes Day and this year the Youth Pannel Italian boys found themselves in Rome to participate actively in events (the year before the appointment was in Perugia ). Upon arrival on November 13, after the space reserved for greetings, started the discussion "at the table" of new developments in diabetes.

The agenda included a discussion of the first moment of GMD and the role of the panelists during the outreach activities planned for the next day. Then we analyzed the "Manifesto of the rights of people with diabetes," a list of points that summarize the needs of all persons with diabetes. Finally, the new project was presented Novo Nordisk, which aims to help sub-Saharan children with diabetes in serious economic difficulties.

In the evening the boys have watched the show "The island that is" by Renato Giordano Tordinola at the theater, a magnificent performance, but at times almost tragic irony, which recounts the tortuous and difficult road traveled by Dr. Banting and Best looking aide of therapy for diabetes: the 'insulin. Much appreciated by the panelists, this first part of the story has the opportunity to learn about the history of mankind that has allowed them to lead a life serene and uncomplicated.

The next day, stand in Piazza San Lorenzo, the panelists have been involved in providing information on diabetes and to interview passersby to detect opinions, doubts and knowledge about diabetes. A real success for the boys, who have been enthusiastic and willing, from nine to eighteen were employed to make people aware of this problem continues to expand, providing useful advice to those who harbored any doubts about it, from 'power to' physical activity.

Exhausted but satisfied with their success, the day when the children are divided into their homes scattered throughout the Boot: Milan, Mantua, Naples, Caserta ... all aware of having done their best to win the battle against diabetes.

Today, November 14, 2009, is World Diabetes Day, as established by the United Nations Resolution on Diabetes. I want to ask everyone the following message ...

The blue circle, the symbol of World Diabetes Day

This date is a great opportunity for the 300 million people with diabetes around the world, a chance for redemption. The World Day offers us the opportunity to shine the spotlight on this scourge that still kills today, especially in poor countries: it is a scandal. We bring to our support people with diabetes with a positive message of the beauty of life. But ask in a loud voice the commitment of the institutions of science and the care, assistance for all vehicles, and medical research, putting the individual at the center of everything. Should be promoted where possible prevention, healthy lifestyles by educating in 'power and in the' physical activity, especially for young people. It is necessary to raise awareness in society and the media, by conveying the rights of people with diabetes to reduce ignorance, injustice, and the prejudices that still exist today anachronistic.
A better future for diabetes is possible, for everyone's build it together.

This World Diabetes Day to be a party: we participate in the activities and associations in the streets, let's hear it. The blue circle is the symbol that identifies diabetes: indossiamolo diffondiamolo and everywhere, even on the internet.

Some events for World Diabetes Day November 14

!!! "-2 Days" to 14 November: now we have ... In less than 48 hours will shoot all over the world, the World Diabetes Day! About a month ago I had already spoken on this blog in a previous article ...

I recommend it, spread the news as much as possible and participate in events organized in your city to find out when and where events will take place please contact your local groups! Will the commitment of all, because this World Diabetes Day will represent an important opportunity to talk about the issue "diabetes", the first step to try to improve the lives of many, too many people with diabetes worldwide.

Here are some activities that will take place in the coming days:

In Rome there will be a great event for young people through the activities of the boys' Italian Youth Panel. A group of young people from all over Italy it will meet November 13 to 15 in the capital to deepen and make people aware of the issues the UN Resolution on Diabetes and the Manifesto of the Rights of Person with Diabetes standing among the people in the Youth Panel Village organized by them. In fact, it turns moments learning moments of exposure in the gazebo Changing Diabetes. I'll be there!
A doctor in a review of the previous article we noted that such Olevano Romano will perform a blood glucose screening. Similar activities will be offered in Piazza Duomo in Trento from ATD. In Mantua, the association will AAGD testing of blood glucose throughout the day of 14 in Piazza Marconi, also distributing informational material to raise public awareness. Right in the town of Virgil is to report the co-operation with local institutions, by the lights of the Palace of the blue city of Mantua in Via Roma, due to start at 18: a great many monuments in the world will be illuminated in blue, as the blue circle is the symbol of diabetes and color which unify all initiatives. Also in Mantua on 16 and 23 November will be organized a conference entitled "Expectations and rights of the diabetic in society" ( more here ).
On the sporting side in Perugia on November 15 will be held for the second time the Changing Diabetes Bike Day thanks to the collaboration between the association and non-profit Cycling & Diabetes Novo Nordisk, similar to ' 2008 edition . This event will involve cyclists with and without diabetes who wish to ride to Assisi bringing the message of diabetes living positively with physical activity and health ( more info here ).

... But these are only examples: the activities will be thousands, all over Italy and all over the world!
Very little is missing ... The appointment is for tomorrow, November 14, 2009, World Diabetes Day!
