Now we have: in just over a month will take place in the Italian Championship for Riders with Diabetes. The event is scheduled for July 26, 2009 in Urbino, where dozens of cyclists come from all over Italy to compete for the title of Italian champion with diabetes.

This year the championship will take place on the road during the marathon cycling Straducale, a distance of 120km with several significant climbs: first of all the demanding Monte Nero, with a total of 1200 meters in altitude. Last year the competition was won by Giuliano Melis race on June 2, 2008 St. Justin's. I'll be there to Urbino, where he will try to defend the title in the category, we hope well!

This championship is an established association for Cycling & ANIADA and Diabetes, now in its 4 th edition. Participation is increasingly recognized, making the event more and more important and known also in diabetes. In support of the organization will, as always, the campaign of Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes.

This will be a chance meeting between all the riders with diabetes in Italy: among them are old friends know, but you can also discover new people. In addition to a healthy competition, the comparison of their experience on the management of diabetes in sport will be the focus of the appointment. Finally certainly do not want to miss a lot of fun! The group meeting is scheduled for the day before the race, July 25.

I remember that the championship is open to all people with diabetes who have a passion for cycling, and that participation is free of charge up to the cash funds of the association eusarimento C & D.

So far I have spoken of road cycling: the second edition of the Italian league for people with diabetes on mountain bike has instead played in the province of Perugia on May 3 last year. The ranking was awarded the Italian champion mountain bike Diego Franceschini 2009, followed by Zoz and Parati. Although this was a nice opportunity to get together and share their condition cyclists with diabetes, showing how it can be positive physical activity.

A few days after the World Diabetes Day, Monday, November 3, 2008 at 11 am, at the Foro Italico in the main hall of CONI, the Italian National Olympic Committee, there was the ceremony of the Changing Diabetes Sports Prize. This is an important recognition in the field of diabetes and physical activity. The official of this commitment was underlined by the presence of the President of CONI John Petrucci and political representatives from the Senate and House.

The event allowed to present sensitive issues and fundamental to the media and journalists, bringing together doctors, institutions, diabetologists, researchers, scientific associations, experts, sports teams and patients. All have covered the major issues in the field of diabetes, sports, and the benefits it can bring in everyone's life. Among the many and important personalities present, I want to make particular note is the prof. Pierpaolo De Feo, for his extensive efforts in diabetes, but also for his great personality, to whom go my best wishes.

The ceremony was organized in collaboration between ANIADA, the Italian National Association of Athletes with Diabetes, and Novo Nordisk, a leader in the field of insulin, but also in the field of social values that transmits through various projects. In fact, among others was attended by Dr. Gerardo Corigliano and Dr. Lawrence Mastromonaco.

But the real stars were the athletes with diabetes. Among the many, I remember in particular with Michela David Panichi, Marco Peruffo, Talini Mauro, Del Carmine United, Paul Cristofoletti, Andrea Guerra ... But the list is too long, really: all with unique characteristics from a sporting perspective, but especially from the human. Many of them are my good friends for a long time, and I feel grateful to all the emotions that I send. I want to thank and greet them, especially those who need or I could not forget to mention in this article. They are all true witnesses of how to reconcile an active lifestyle and healthy, along with diabetes, insulin, sugars, glucose, carbohydrates, and difficulties of each day, along with small and large challenges of life.

For me it was a great honor to be among the winners, and receive recognition of Changing Diabetes Sports Ambassador, along with other athletes with their commitment to sport, expanded into other fields, have brought a positive message in the field of diabetes.

Important was also the support of major sporting champions, witnesses and supporters of the campaign for diabetes. For example, the Italian Federation Hockey brings the words "Changing Diabetes" on their national jerseys. But even as an Olympic champion Alex Schwazer has espoused the cause of diaebte.

All this to say that diabetes is an important issue to be addressed urgententemente, and in particular, sport is a crucial means to improve their glycemic control and metabolic complications with effective prevention, and promoting positive values.
