Missing one month at a World Diabetes Day 2009

We have grown. Among exactly one month, November 14, 2009 will be celebrated throughout the world, the World Diabetes Day. On this blog we talked about it often: for example, see this previous article .

Manca poco alla Giornata Mondiale del Diabete del 14 novembre 2009

Like all years, people with diabetes can be heard loudly, with their testimonies and demands, their problems and hopes. The World Diabetes Day, originally promoted by the IDF, today is a celebration officially recognized by a United Nations resolution, and enjoys the patronage of many local, national and international, with a spread in all countries of the world.

There are many events planned to bring to the fore some important issues: prevention, care and rights of diabetes. At the local level associations organize thousands of gazebo and meeting places in city squares, spreading correct information among people and to try to screen the blood sugar levels. With the coordination of local authorities will be illuminated in blue hundreds of monuments, to attract attention thanks to the color of diabetes, or will be organized walks along the city streets with banners and balloons blue. All this will take place in Italy for years at the forefront of these activities in favor of diabetes, although some activities may be postponed to Sunday, 15 for organizational convenience.

Many events will be proposed to transmit positive values that animate many people with diabetes. For example, on November 15 will be repeated in Perugia pedaling the bicycle tour dedicated to diabetes: Diabetes & Cycling members along with many other sympathizers also going through a fascinating journey to Assisi. I, too, I had attended last year (see the ' article ) supporting the importance of exercise in diabetes.

This year I will not be at Perugia, but will attend the World Diabetes Day in Rome, where 13 to 15 November there will be celebrations and activities with the group of the Youth Panel, which brings together young people with diabetes from all over Italy, representing a great opportunity initiatives to coordinate some of the youth. The World Diabetes Day in Mantua

Mantova in blu per il diabete

Mantua in blue for diabetes

Also this year Mantua is committed to organize the World Diabetes Day 2008, for the last year focused on diabetes in children and adolescents. Several activities have enlivened the days of 14 and 16 November, bringing the issue of diabetes in the middle of the people, the press and institutions. Of this we must thank the AAGD of Mantua, and with the tireless work of people who are part of it did much for young people with diabetes.

Silvia Donagemma wrote an account of activities during the day: It is stated in the enthusiasm of a girl with diabetes who participated in the first person. Here it is: Text on World Diabetes Day 2008 in Mantua .

Simone e Patrizia parlano al Consiglio Provinciale di Mantova

Patrizia Simone and talk to the Provincial Council of Mantua

For a summary of the results obtained with success in Mantua for diabetes, these are the topics that the report of Silvia is:

  • the illumination of blue, a symbol of diabetes, several monuments in the historical center of Mantua, by Giulio Romano as the Lodge
  • the celebration and reception at the Provincial Council of Mantua, where they were current topics
  • Information and screening activity in the streets of the city, and the ceremony with blue balloons with many children
  • the walk for diabetes on the streets of Mantua, that is, the Global Diabetes Walk, which saw around 120 people attend well: a symbol of physical activity involvement and inspiration

I want to conclude by quoting a very significant question from the text:

Yes, we are outwardly identical, but if we say we have something changes with diabetes, but ... what?

We can find an answer? ... Anyway, great job, keep so! Good reading.

The symbol of the World Diabetes Day and

Simbolo del diabete e Giornata Mondiale del Diabete

The symbol of diabetes is the blue circle, the "blue circle" in English. It was adopted during the campaign Unite for Diabetes, which had the objective to obtain a United Nations Resolution on Diabetes, which was adopted last December 20 2006.

Since then, the blue circle around the world is also the symbol of World Diabetes Day, that is the World Diabetes Day. To improve the general awareness of the public about diabetes and its problems, especially around the time of the November 14 is important in understanding and supporting campaigns on diabetes also by its symbol: for example you can wear the badge of diabetes with the blue circle, or other gadgets.

Spilla del diabete

In the symbol, the color blue is the color of the sky that unites all people of the world, and is the color of the flag of the 'UN, recalling that diabetes is a global problem, a more extensive pandemic. Moreover, the circle, in its simplicity, reminiscent of the combined forces of the world necessary for a common commitment.

To give uniformity to use the logo of diabetes, were published by 'IDF guidelines, which you can download from here: download the file . For more information and to find useful material, I suggest you visit the official website of the initiative: www.worlddiabetesday.org .

Just a few days to World Diabetes Day. We help all of this cause, spreading its symbol everywhere: at work, among friends, in our society, but also on the internet, on our site or our blog! Even with the simple word of mouth can go a long way for a better future of diabetes around the world. Thank you!
