From today, the author of this blog (...) is 21 years old! So, also arrived on my twenty first birthday, Sept. 3. Happy birthday to me ...! ;-)

This was the fourth birthday passed along to diabetes. Sometimes I wonder how diabetes has completely changed my life, but honestly these last birthdays do not seem too different from previous ones. In the end I found my peace, I have maintained normal.

Before I thought of the many comments that people make when they find out I have diabetes. Speeches like this: "Poor thing, then you can not eat sugar," or "So if you have diabetes do not eat more pasta and sweet" ... Oh?!?! 8-O Basically I am not surprised too, because what I thought before I have the same diabetes was not too far from the examples that I have done above. In fact, maybe I was bad ... It is not evil, and not the fault of people themselves if they think so. These situations are due to the lack of information provided by the media in society, which is sometimes even incorrect information. So I think it is important to mobilize public opinion, too much to dispel the myths and prejudices that still imprison people with diabetes in a corner at the limit of compassion. Every small contribution can be important, so I've written this article.

I thought of these things just as I ate dinner on my birthday, homemade: I felt like smiling. In fact these thoughts I have enjoyed seeing the dishes in front of me and what I was eating. The pasta, cakes and everything else certainly did not lack, I can assure you ... Indeed! A very rich meal! :-D

So you just know that those who have type 1 diabetes is not always limited in 'power, not necessarily as a person who has dieted. But we must be responsible, and follow certain rules:

  • need moderation like all things in life you must have common sense
  • must be able to calculate the carbohydrates that you eat: with simple calculations can quantify the principal determinants of glucose feeding
  • must make the 'appropriate insulin: each person with diabetes should know their ratio insulin / carbohydrate, and the ability to accurately calculate the insulin required for the meal, according to the carbohydrates that you eat.

In this way you can maintain a good metabolic control, without sacrificing the good things of life, and sweet, with satisfaction to the palate.

It often happens that people who have diabetes are found to deal with celiac disease, and then having to eat gluten-free foods, which adds some more problems ... But that's another story. :-)

Today was really a beautiful day. Nothing sensational, but a peaceful birthday. I have to thank for that purpose, all loved ones, friends and family, that have enabled this: who stood by me, giving me wonderful emotions, and who remembered me with a simple thought or a wish. Thank you!

Also a couple of days left for the Love & Bike Tour ... now just missing! On this blog you can follow the final performance of this experience in the cycling section of the news . See you soon!
