Cycling & Diabetes 2010 version: program and news!

Along with some major changes coming in 2010 'Association of Italian cyclists with diabetes: the Diabetes & Cycling voluntary group is ready to deal with energy events of the new season!

First of all there was the unveiling of the official website of C & D: www.ciclismoediabete.it . This important tool was more necessary than ever: now that the association is becoming more authority and reputation needed a dedicated space and a direct address to reference in order to gather and share experiences.

Since its inception, our blog Sunt Diabetes did his little part to communicate in "spontaneous" news, events, statements Cycling and Diabetes (it shows a rich collection of articles that speak of ). We will continue to do so with pleasure, telling our point of view and working with the new official website!

The site is available new statute Cycling & Diabetes NGO, which contains the principles that inspired the association's activities. Guerra returns to be president of C & D (after be was in the early years): in 2009 the office was covered by David Panichi ... So a special thanks to him for the work done, and we wish the new president, even if the spirit of the group we certainly will move together, each doing their part!

Another new feature is the 'association membership: to bring order to the many participants Cycling & Diabetes (We are more than 100) it was decided to prepare a special form. Just visit the membership campaign in 2010 and completed its data to enter the ranks of C & D and to subscribe to the newsletter, staying up to date with all the news. Are you a cyclist? You have diabetes mellitus? Do not miss it, subscribe now!

Finally, the program for the new year here is all the events . The main official events, already tested in previous years, will be:

the Granfondo Davide Cassani in Faenza on March 20 to 21
will be covered the 12th stage of the Tour of Italy on May 18-19-20 in Città Sant'Angelo (Perugia)
the most important event, the fifth National Championship for elite cyclists with diabetes (Trophy Changing Diabetes) at the Biella Alps Granfondo on 10-11 July 2010 in Biella
the Granfondo Straducale July 25 in Urbino
the III National Championship MTB 2-3 October Bieno Valsugana (TN)
and to close the loop-gathering of the World Diabetes Day on 13-14 November in Perugia.

SnowDiab 2010: snow sports for kids with diabetes

I want to inform all children with diabetes and snowboard mountain lovers an interesting initiative, it SnowDiab. It is five days to pass in the snow 13 to 17 February 2010 Step Vezzena (Lavarone Plateau, TN).

The event is aimed at all young people with type 1 diabetes aged between 15 and 20 years. The program includes snowboarding lessons and aerobic exercise, which in addition to a healthy enjoyment allow students to confront each other and increase their knowledge about diabetes.

The price to participate is very affordable and includes ski passes and equipment rental: fun and well-being are guaranteed!

The initiative is organized by ADIQ, Mountain Diabetics at high altitude, an association headed by Marco Peruffo which is a group of mountain lovers. In addition to activities such as SnowDiab, ADIQ organizes real expeditions at high altitude where the news is around the world, proving once again that the person with diabetes, it is well defined, has no limits, both in small and large companies.

World Diabetes Day 2009: Youth Panel in Rome

On 14 November, like every year we celebrate the GMD: the World Diabetes Day, this year the Youth Pannel Italian boys found themselves in Rome to participate actively in events (the year preceding the appointment was in Perugia ). Arrival November 13, after the space reserved for greetings, started the discussion "on board" for new developments in diabetes.

The agenda included a first time for debate on the MDG and the role of the panelists during the outreach activities planned for the next day. It was subsequently analyzed the "Manifesto of the rights of people with diabetes," a list of points summarizing the needs of every person with diabetes. Finally, it was brought on Novo Nordisk's new project that aims to help sub-Saharan children with diabetes in serious economic difficulties.

In the evening the boys attended the show "The island is" Renato Giordano Tordinola at the theater, a magnificent performance, but at times almost tragic irony, which tells the tortuous and difficult road traveled by Dr. Banting and Best aide in search of therapy for diabetes: the 'insulin. Much appreciated by the panelists, this first part of the story has the opportunity to learn about the history of mankind that has enabled them to lead a peaceful life and uncomplicated.

The next day, stand in Piazza San Lorenzo, the panelists were employed to provide information on diabetes and to interview passersby to detect opinions, concerns and knowledge about diabetes. A real success for the boys, who have been enthusiastic and willing, from nine to eighteen are employed to make people aware of this growing problem by providing advice to those who had doubts about it, by 'power to' physical activity.

Exhausted but satisfied with their success, the day after the kids are broken into their homes scattered throughout the Boot: Milan, Mantua, Naples, Caserta ... all conscious of having done their best to win the battle against diabetes.

Today, 14 November 2009, is the World Diabetes Day, as established by the United Nations Resolution on Diabetes. I address to all the following message ...

The blue circle, the symbol of World Diabetes Day

This date is a great opportunity for the 300 million people with diabetes worldwide, an opportunity for redemption. The World Day offers us the opportunity to turn the spotlight on this scourge that still kills today, especially in poor countries is a scandal. We bring to our support people with diabetes with positive messages about the beauty of life. But also clamoring for the commitment of institutions and science on the care, assistance for all vehicles, and medical research, putting the individual at the center of everything. Prevention should be promoted where possible, educating on healthy lifestyles in 'food and' physical activity, especially for young people. It is necessary to sensitize society and the media, by conveying the rights of people with diabetes to reduce ignorance, injustices and prejudices that still exist today anachronistic.
A better future for diabetes is possible, for everyone's build it together.

This must be a World Diabetes Day celebration: Participation in activities in the squares and associations, let's hear. The blue circle is the symbol that identifies diabetes: indossiamolo diffondiamolo and everywhere on the internet.

Some appointments for the World Diabetes Day 14 November

!!! "-2 Days" on November 14: we have now ... In less than 48 hours will leave the world the World Diabetes Day! About a month ago I had already spoken on this blog in a previous article ...

I recommend it, spread the news as much as possible, and attend events organized in your city to know where and when events will take place please contact your local clubs! Will the commitment of all, because this World Diabetes Day will be an important opportunity to discuss the problem "diabetes," the first step to try to improve the lives of many, too many people with diabetes worldwide.

Here are some activities that take place in coming days:

In Rome there will be a great event for young children through the activities of 'English youth panel. A group of young people from across Italy it will meet November 13 to 15 in the capital to study and make people aware of the issues of UN Resolution on Diabetes and the Manifesto of the Rights of People with Diabetes According among people in the youth panel Village organized by them. In fact, it turns moments learning moments of exposure in the gazebo Changing Diabetes. I will be there!
A doctor in a comment in the previous article we report that such Olevano Romano will conduct a blood glucose screening. Similar activities will be proposed in Trento in Piazza Duomo by ATD. This event will involve cyclists with and without diabetes who want to ride to Assisi bringing messages of diabetes living positively with physical activity and health ( more here ).

... But these are only examples: the work will be thousands, across Italy and throughout the world!
Little miss ... The appointment is for next day, November 14, 2009, World Diabetes Day!
