Influenza A-H1N1 pandemic and diabetes: yes vaccine, no vaccine?

Influenza H1N1: alcune persone indossano la mascherina

Here we are in full pandemic: now the army of people infected with spreads like wildfire. Everyone knows someone who is at home with a fever and the flu? ... This year, the influenza viruses is added the so-called swine flu, technically called H1N1 flu. By television and the authorities is a mess, you go from 'rampant alarmism to total more reassurance: both extreme positions are probably unjustified. We try to understand more.

Vaccines for these influences are ready for some months now: that of the season you can buy in pharmacies, while influenza A for now is only found in hospitals, and is currently reserved only for certain professional groups and for people with chronic diseases and complications, such as diabetes.

But on this last pandemic vaccine is a great discussion:

  • Some maintain and stimulates the vaccine to slow the epidemic and reduce the risk of serious complications, also blocking any malicious virus mutation;
  • there are some who oppose this vaccine claiming that it is useless because this flu is relatively mild flu symptoms, while the vaccine may actually be dangerous to health.

We must indeed recognize that the alarmism and panic is not justified: this new virus is not particularly aggressive, indeed, is usually less severe than the other seasonal flu despite there being led to believe otherwise. If anything to worry about is its spread. So we must be quiet!

In a special historical and artistic context, the departure is taken at 8:20 for the 41 competitors with diabetes Road Cycling Championships, coming from all over Italy. A record attendance of 2009 that, although the number would have been even higher had they not occurred several accidents and mishaps in recent days, a sign that the event is becoming increasingly competitive and consolidated. The route of the race proved to be very hard. From the start the pace was maintained, and after a few short tears we've reached the formidable Monte Nero: more than 13 kilometers of uphill and climbed down the switchbacks, making a significant selection among cyclists. Arriving finally at the top of a long descent we started it in the second half of the race, characterized by a relatively more peaceful path: however, the fatigue in the legs because it was a lot of climbing just ended, and then also any short slope or hill was still very challenging.

Finally, after so much hard work and after more than 123 km very difficult, yet another long climb uphill, here is the arrival on the cobblestones in the center of Urbino, which he accomplished this great day for diabetes and sport: emotion and happiness for this great undertaking has filled the hearts of us all cyclists at the finish, but also our emotional companions and supporters present.
